Antiques & Collectibles
Whether you’re heading north from Glenwood to Alexandria or south from Alexandria to Glenwood on Highway 29 in Central Minnesota, you can’t miss the pair of golden lions standing on the knoll next to the highway just north of downtown Glenwood, beckoning you to stop for a visit at Vintage House Antiques & Collectibles!
Back in May of 2001 Jaci and Blake Heidecker bought a “fixer-upper” vintage house and began renovating it. As the renovation progressed Jaci realized that they would need furnishings to match the period of the house and she determined that the best place to find them would be at auctions. As has been known to happen, her auction shopping got just a bit out of hand and after acquiring many items that “didn’t quite work” or that she “really didn’t need” she became a dealer at the former Memory Mercantile in nearby Lowry, MN.
And then her love of auctions let her to purchase, (at auction of course), the old Wahlquist Law Office in nearby Starbuck, MN. After renovating that building she and Blake officially opened Vintage House Antiques & Collectibles there in 2003.
About a year and a half later they bought another “fixer-upper” close to downtown Glenwood, renovated it, and relocated Vintage House Antiques & Collectibles to that location, opening in 2005.
In 2007 yet another “fixer-upper”, the building that originally started as the Glenwood Creamery prior to 1900, came up for sale. Jaci and Blake decided that its location at 701 North Franklin Street (Highway 29) would be advantageous and so began what turned into a two-year renovation. As the project neared completion they concluded that this would be a much better location for Vintage House Antiques & Collectibles and just at that time the Grand Stay Hotel indicated that they wanted to buy the downtown Glenwood location for a new hotel.
Things could not have worked out better if they had planned it this way. Vintage House Antiques & Collectibles has now been operating from 701 N Franklin Street for over seven years where its excellent visibility and plenty of off-street parking make visiting easy.
The inventory at Vintage House Antiques & Collectibles includes a great variety of art pottery, glassware, Pyrex, jewelry, toys, books, lamps, furniture, figurines, and just about anything you can think of.
Just after they opened on Franklin Street Jaci and Blake were approached by Todd Gylsen of Central Lakes Coins. The shop in which he had been located had suffered a major fire and he was looking for a new home. Central Lakes Coins, which offers coins and coin supplies, has operated out of Vintage House Antiques & Collectibles ever since.
Jaci’s step-mother, Rita, also makes loom rugs as well as hand-embroidered dish towels which enhance and enrich the varied antiques and collectibles inventory.
Vintage House Antiques & Collectibles is a destination treasure hunters paradise to be sure, and Jaci and Blake invite you to stop by, visit, check out the varied and ever-changing inventory, and while you’re in the area take in the sites of Glenwood, Minnesota!
