The charm of Allouez Antiques (pronounced Eloise – like the girl’s name) is that you never know what you’re going to find in the nooks and crannies of this century old building. The many quality vendors whose wares are displayed in those nooks and crannies specialize in everything from postcards and Red Wing Pottery to hunting and fishing items with a little bit of all things antique, collectible and vintage in between.
A corner grocery store in its first life, the building has housed several antique businesses over the past 40 years. Patrons can’t believe the size and amount of inventory tucked within the 100 year-old structure. “I need to come back when I have more time” is a comment often heard from folks after they have spent time inside the store.
Current owner Beth Zamzow, first opened the doors to Allouez Antiques 18 years ago. Since then she has kept the doors open 7 days a week with the help of vendors, friends and family. Her parents, Bud and Lois, can often be found behind the counter with their trusty dog Angel welcoming visitors to the shop.
So come on up to the shores of Lake Superior, enjoy that “Up North” atmosphere and hospitality, say hello to the staff at Allouez Antiques, and be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to explore this fascinating and unique piece of Superior history.
